I don't know if this is some type of eccentric "pick-up" ball game, a gay social club activity, or merely a fraternity having their pledges refine their athletic skills, but there certainly appears to be some aggressive basketball in progress.
The era same sex male PE classes has long passed, but for some memories remain. Regulation PE uniforms ( gym shorts, gym shirts, white socks, gym shoes and jock straps and at some schools cups were mandatory. ) PE classes meant calisthenics, running laps, more calisthenics and of course thorough group showers. Swimming often was done wearing only smiles. Platoon formations, physical conditioning was intended to prepare all boys for mandatory military service during the draft era.

This is the ultimate "skins" basketball game, every square inch a skin.
ReplyDeleteI had to do traditional skins basketball all the time in school, meaning a bare chest. The other side briefly wore a ribbon diagonally across their own bare chests, as usual gym was everyone bare chests anyway.
Our school, in '82 made boys who'd not bought correct shorts or none at all run 5 laps of the gym like these lads, with nothing on, before being given a spare pair to put on. Some lads seemed to enjoy larking about in the buff, naked in the changing room before and after showers rather than quickly getting dressed.
The amount of casual nakedness in those days not that long ago in the eighties as well as the bare chested gym time we did each week now seems quite extraordinary, although my own two sons have both done gym in their classes more recently in bare chests and had to shower too, and that is since 2005.
